You have a place and you would like that place to draw traffic. Surely when your place is new, that can be a bit of a challenge. At least, that is, if you want real traffic. 

The traffic monitor is a device that counts your traffic, day by day and produces a daily traffic figure that is the sum of minutes spent in your place. This is the same figure SL uses to measure traffic, yet they count slightly different. There will be every day a few percent difference in the results. A few percent doesn't matter.

The traffic monitor is a useful tool to see if you are on progress today, or more not. You rezz this in your parcel and then you as owner of the device can click it and get a traffic summary. 

Based on that summary you can act. Traffic needs some time to build. Perhaps you can try each day to sit above the weekly average. Or you aim at a goal. 

You rezz the traffic monitor at a spot and keep it there, you can move it, but don't take it into inventory and place it back as it will start with everything at zero again.

The traffic monitor is at its best after it stands at your region for more than a week. The first day, the comparison with yesterday clearly doesn't make sense, the first week the weekly averages are less accurate.

When you click it, your traffic monitor gives a small report in local chat. 

Traffic is measured per hour. The example here to the left is made at 09:48, thus from the hour 09-10 it misses still 11 minutes. An estimate is made for these minutes. 

One sees that the traffic so far, up to 10:00 is 4619, yesterday it was a lot more , 6547 and the week average is 5950. 

There is a prediction based on the data of yesterday, last week and the same day as today, a week ago (thus last weeks Thursday if it is Thursday today) that says we'll end with 10592 today, quite less than yesterday or the weekly average.

Knowing this, the owner can determine if promotion to get people in is needed or not. Being 2000 minutes behind, is 2000/60 = 33 folks standing there for an hour, or with still 14 hours to go, 2.4 people extra on average.

It is enough, you know what the traffic is so far, you know what you want it to be, so you know what you'll have to do. Don't spend time on traffic charts or spreadsheet, spend time on enjoying your place and on bringing people in.
